The Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) proudly congratulates two distinguished leaders in higher education, Dr. Darryl B. Holloman and Dr. Juan R. Guardia, on their recent elections to key NASPA leadership positions. Dr. Holloman has been elected as NASPA Board Chair-Elect, and Dr. Guardia has been named the NASPA Region III Director-Elect. Their appointments further strengthen the relationship between SACSA and NASPA, reinforcing our shared commitment to advancing student affairs and higher education.
Dr. Darryl B. Holloman – NASPA Board Chair-Elect
Dr. Holloman is a distinguished leader in higher education with over 30 years of experience in student affairs, academic administration, institutional advancement, and governance. He has held leadership roles at numerous regional and nationally recognized institutions, overseeing budgets exceeding $300 million and managing teams of over 200 employees. A scholar-practitioner, Dr. Holloman’s research focuses on the ways disadvantaged groups navigate and exercise agency within educational systems, particularly in urban school settings. He is co-editor of From Boyhood to Manhood: Deconstructing Black Masculinity through a Life Span Continuum and is currently working on In the Middle: Leading as Mid-Level Professionals in Student Affairs.
Beyond his professional commitments, Dr. Holloman is an active member of St. Luke Episcopal Church and resides in Atlanta with his spouse of 30 years, Glyn Williams, and their twin sons, Delbert and Delvin.
Reflecting on his election, Dr. Holloman shared, "I am deeply honored to be elected as the Board Chair-Elect for NASPA. This organization has played a pivotal role in both my professional and personal growth, and I am excited to lead and collaborate with the NASPA board. Together, we will continue to advance our commitment to serving higher education professionals and enhancing the services and programs that support our students' success."
Dr. Juan R. Guardia – NASPA Region III Director-Elect
Currently serving as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, Dr. Guardia brings 25 years of experience in student affairs administration, including leadership roles at the University of Cincinnati, Loyola University Chicago, and Florida State University. A dedicated scholar and practitioner, Dr. Guardia has also served as adjunct faculty, contributing to the development of future student affairs professionals.
Dr. Guardia is a proud Cuban-American, a first-generation college graduate, and a lifelong member of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership-Higher Education Administration from Iowa State University, a master’s and bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, and an associate’s degree from Miami-Dade College.
On his new role, Dr. Guardia stated, "I am truly honored to have been chosen by my peers and fellow student affairs professionals to serve as the Region III Director-Elect. I’m excited to work together with them to strengthen our efforts and further enhance the support and success of our colleagues throughout the region."
