Committees and Chairs

SACSA is a volunteer-run organization and relies on its membership to serve the Association. If you are interested in serving on a committee or in a special position, we encourage you to review our open volunteer opportunities or contact the committee chair using the links below. Note: You must be a member of SACSA to serve on a committee.

The Awards and Recognition Committee shall coordinate the nominations and selection process for SACSA awards. The Committee shall recognize award recipients at the annual conference, on the SACSA Website, and in appropriate publications.

The New Professionals Institute Chair is appointed jointly with NASPA Region III. It is responsible for planning and implementing the Institute for new professionals with less than five years of professional experience. SACSA leads the chair selection and approval, and NASPA leads the site approval. The Chair shall also ask for the approval of Institute faculty members from the SACSA Executive Council and the NASPA Region III Board of Directors.

The Career Services Committee shall be responsible for providing a variety of career-related services to members throughout each year and during the annual conference.

The Non-Conference Programming Committee shall provide educational opportunities for the SACSA membership to enhance student affairs professional standards, research, and best practices. The committee will operate year-round, engaging the SACSA membership with webinars and other outlets to advance member professional development.

The Case Study Co-Chairs coordinate graduate student teams and recruit judges for the case study competition. They work with the Conference Registration Chair and the Marketing and Communications committee to promote the registration of teams. They develop the case study for the participants to process, strategize, and present solutions to judges. They coordinate the debrief/feedback session for participants. They announce the winners of the case study competition at the Closing Dinner.

The Public Policy Chair knows relevant public policy and advises the President and other officers on the impact of such policies.

Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communication plan for SACSA members via monthly SACSAlert and social media outlets while working closely with the conference team on all conference-specific communication.

The Recruitment & Retention Committee will support the Association through ongoing efforts to recruit new members and retain existing memberships within a specified state in the SACSA region.

The Executive Council shall approve the contract for printing the Journal. The Journal Editor(s) shall be responsible for all other aspects of publishing the College Student Affairs Journal, including, but not limited to, selecting associate editors, approving reviewers, and soliciting manuscripts.

The Research and Assessment Committee shall encourage research in the college student affairs field, identify current research, and award Research Incentive Grants and the Dissertation of the Year Award at the annual conference.

The Conference Chair is responsible for all aspects of the planning and implementation of the annual conference. The Conference Chair will recommend the conference's registration fees and ensure that the conference makes a financial profit. The Conference Program Committee reports to the conference chair and arranges the conference educational programs and other duties assigned by the conference chair. The Local Arrangements Committee, reporting to the Conference Chair, shall be responsible for arranging for and coordinating the use of facilities and other matters pursuant to the holding of the annual conference and the conduct of the program following policies adopted by the Executive Council.

The Resolutions Chair shall solicit resolutions from the membership, submit resolutions to the Executive Council, and present the resolutions endorsed by the Executive Council during the annual conference for a vote by the membership.

The Liaison serves as SACSA’s representative to the CAS Board of Directors and shall attend the CAS Annual meeting.

The SACSA’s Newest Committee shall provide orientation, mentoring, and networking opportunities for individuals experiencing SACSA for the first time.

Liaison: Dr. Brad Johnson, University of North Carolina at Greensboro

This individual shall serve as the primary conduit between the Association and the faculty members in student affairs graduate preparation programs throughout the region. This individual shall maintain an updated list of all faculty in these programs, provide these faculty with regular updates regarding SACSA activities and programs, and coordinate conference activities designated for faculty.

The Sponsors and Exhibits Chair shall identify potential sponsors for the SACSA annual conference, solicit businesses and vendors as exhibitors, and encourage these entities to partner with the Association in long-term relationships.

The Historian shall be the official archivist of the Association. The Historian will maintain all historical records as directed by the President and the Executive Council. The official archives of SACSA reside at Bowling Green State University. The SACSA Historian should maintain a working relationship with BGSU to ensure proper storage of documents.

The SSAO Initiatives Chair shall provide opportunities at the conference for individuals serving in the role of SSAO.

Chair: Dr. Adrienne Craig, University of North Carolina at Greensboro

The Mid-Managers Institute Chair is appointed jointly with NASPA Region III. It is responsible for planning and implementing the Institute for mid-level managers with five or more years of professional experience. SACSA leads the selection of the chair, and NASPA leads the selection of the site. The Chair shall also ask for the approval of Institute faculty members from the SACSA Executive Council and the NASPA Region III Board of Directors.

The Strategic Planning Chair shall oversee the development and implementation of long-term goals and objectives for the Association.

The Multicultural Awareness Committee shall identify effective programs and practices that promote a more positive multicultural climate and combat racial/ethnic intolerance.
