The SACSA Foundation was very successful during our time in Louisville. Not only did we get to honor our latest class of Gavel and Gravel Society inductees, we raised more money to support our association. The Board of Trustees is especially grateful to the many donors who made contributions for the first time. The generosity of our members enabled the Association to celebrate achievements through awards and recognition (Case Study, Research and Assessment Grants, and the Dissertation of the Year) and provide 40 Joe Buck Travel Awards for attendees. Committing to SACSA, through our foundation, is an important part of sustaining our success for another 75 years.
In our Class of 2025 of the Gavel and Gravel Society, we recognized six distinguished leaders in our field: Howard Bailey, Monica Galloway Burke, Robert Glenn, Pam Havice, Dorian McCoy, and Fred Rhodes. These individuals epitomize what this society is all about – recognizing outstanding professionals whose enduring contributions have shaped both the field of student affairs and the SACSA community. The giving goal for this group was $9,000, but this year, $14,485 was donated to the SACSA Foundation on their behalf. What an accomplishment and a testament to impact of these individuals on so many across the profession!
The Foundation relies on conference giving to meet our financial commitments to the Association. This year, our members surely delivered. Our annual conference giving goal for 2025 was $6,000. In Louisville, we raised more than $6,500! Thanks to all of our conference donors.
Special thanks to everyone who contributed items for and placed bids at the annual Silent Auction, which generated more than $2,000 for the SACSA Foundation. We are most grateful for Foundation Trustees Christina Wan and Melissa Dempsey, who coordinated the auction again this year. We plan to continue this tradition in Greenville in 2026!
Special thanks to Angela Taylor and Roland Bullard for their contributions as leaders of the SACSA Foundation. Both will roll of the board this year, and we could not be more appreciative of their commitment to and support for the foundation. Angela served as Board Chair for the last four years – she’s a wonderful leader, and we look forward to seeing her thrive in her new role as President-elect of the Association. Roland has served as a Trustee for more than a decade and as Immediate Past Chair for the last four years. We are especially thankful for Roland’s pivotal role in establishing the Gavel and Gravel Society three years ago. He brought to fruition the idea of this recognition opportunity and has built a firm foundation upon which we will be able to continue to grow the program.
We look forward to seeing everyone in Greenville next November. In the meantime, you can continue to connect with and support the foundation here: https://sacsa.org/pages/about-the-sacsa-foundation.
