| Executive Council Member Spotlight |
Hello SACSA Family!
Happy New Year! My name is Tony W. Cawthon, and it is my honor to serve as your SACSA Executive Director. Having served in this position since 2020, it has and continues to be one of the highlights of my professional career. In my day job, I am an Alumni Distinguished Professor of Student Affairs and Higher Education at Clemson University, another highlight of my professional career.
As a kid growing up on a farm (and those who know me know I do not do nature), I was taught by my extended family that giving back to one's community was not simply something to value, but it was a way of life. As part of living life, it was expected I would be generous and gracious to others and the communities I belong. Every day, I am awe of SACSA members exemplifies this value. Our members provide empathy, concern and care for students in crises; provide support and comfort for families who had a student pass away; and build communities that value all members, ensuring their safety and full participation in the community, to name a few. This commitment can and does take a toll on our own mental health, and I hope that SACSA is there to help you navigate these difficult times. Your SACSA friends and networks are lifelines when needed. Again, we live our values by making our campuses and the lives of our students better.
SACSA is about making memories. I hope this year, you find ways to create SACSA memories that bring you joy, comfort, and peace as you navigate the ongoing stressors of higher education. Know you SACSA family is here for you-you simply need to reach out to us. The SACSA leadership team values your input, suggestions, and ideas. We encourage you to share your thoughts to make the organization stronger, to consider a committee or executive council position, to submit a conference interest session proposal, and to nominate a well-deserved colleague for an award.
I cannot wait to welcome you to Greenville, SC, for SACSA 2026. If I can be of assistance to you at any point, please know I am here for you! It's always SACSA time!
