My SACSA Story |
Quinton Lane serves as the Assistant Director of Residence Life, where he supervises Hall Directors and facilitates the implementation of the department's residential programming model.
His first SACSA experience was in Myrtle Beach in 2018. As a graduate student attending for the first time, he was amazed at how accessible and welcoming the conference was especially the ease of connecting with some of the most influential figures in higher education across the region. That initial experience led to meaningful professional relationships that have lasted throughout his career. Inspired by those early connections, Quinton now strives to invest in new professionals just as others once invested in him. SACSA has become a professional home, offering both challenge and support, and he credits the organization's strong sense of community with making him a better higher education professional.
When asked about his most memorable SACSA moment, Quinton shares that it's not just one, it's the recurring joy of reconnecting with colleagues each year. The annual conference feels like returning home. Watching fellow professionals grow into leadership roles such as Directors, Assistant Vice Presidents, and Deans of Students brings him great pride. He especially values the opportunity to mentor graduate students as they transition into their first professional roles, just as he once did.
Quinton encourages all attendees, especially newer professionals, not to hesitate in connecting with individuals in leadership roles such as Vice Chancellors, Vice Presidents, Directors, and faculty. These connections are not only full of wisdom and insight but can also lead to future opportunities and lasting professional relationships.
Each year, he challenges himself to connect with a new professional, a returning colleague, and a seasoned professional and makes a concerted effort to maintain those relationships beyond the conference. He also prioritizes attending sessions that are interesting, new, or challenge his perspective to ensure continuous growth and learning. These habits have allowed him to build a strong, diverse network of professionals across various areas of expertise, creating a community of support and shared resources.
What keeps Quinton coming back to SACSA is the organization's unmatched sense of community and accessibility. His first experience as a graduate student planted a seed that has continued to grow. He appreciates how easy it is to engage with others, without fear of intimidation, and values the genuine support among members. For these reasons, he remains committed to being an active and engaged member of SACSA.
Quinton, we would like to thank you for your hardworking and dedication to the field and to the organization.
