So…..why Greenville, SC?
Although Ti-Ana and Julia were not involved in selecting Greenville as the host city, they understand why it was chosen. Greenville has quickly become one of the Southeast's most vibrant mid-sized cities, serving as a convenient hub between Atlanta and Charlotte. Its location at the intersection of several major interstate highways makes it easily accessible for conference attendees traveling from across the region.
Julia also highlighted Greenville's walkability, proximity to nature, and diverse dining scene as key reasons the city is an ideal conference destination.
Greenville’s local restaurants, coffee shops, and hidden gems!
As part of their planning efforts, Ti-Ana and Julia are creating a guide highlighting local restaurants and attractions, particularly for attendees looking for lunch options on Tuesday or places to explore on Monday evening.
One of Julia’s personal favorites in downtown Greenville, is Windy City Burgers. Julia highlights their authenticity, Windy City makes their own burger buns and grinds their own beef daily. Julia stated that their burgers are “some of the best burgers that I've ever had”. For those looking for a more upscale dining experience, Julia recommends Sassafras Southern Bistro, home to some southern staples, where her favorite dish is the salmon served over grits and topped with lump crab.
When it comes to coffee, Julia suggests Coffee Underground, a Greenville staple for more than 30 years. Coffee Underground is connected to an improv theater, hosting dynamic seating options where you can just sit and hang out, catch an improv show, and have a coffee, or if you're not a coffee drinker, have some dessert.
Even if a restaurant doesn't make the official recommendation list, Julia and Ti-Ana are confident attendees will have a great dining experience wherever they choose.
Making Greenville Memorable.
Greenville has a ton of things to offer. For Ti-Ana and Julia, it's trying to identify what their priorities are. For Ti-Ana and Julia, they love food. One thing they’re working on is creating a list of really great local options for attendees that are within walking distance of the hotel.
Julia shared that the opening session and reception are being held at the Upcountry History Museum. This experience is designed to be memorable for attendees as it is not a traditional ballroom. This museum showcases Greenville and the upstate of South Carolina's history.
The host hotel is right in downtown Greenville with easy access restaurants, coffee shops and local attractions, like Falls Park. Julia shared that she used to go to Falls Park daily in her free time especially during COVID when she needed to get out of the house. Julia recommends sitting and watching the waterfall noting how great this is for her well-being.
Making your Mark on SACSA Greenville.
Julia and Ti-Ana hope attendees remember the connections that they made with new and old colleagues, but also with the city. Remembering how connected we are, how connected the city is with the community, and building new connections. Ti-Ana and Julia recommend using Greenville as an avenue to make those connections inside and outside the conference.
Ti-Ana and Julia are working with the City of Greenville to identify some local businesses that will offer discounts for all the attendees. From what they were able to share, it looks like mostly 10% discounts. When attendees arrive on site, they will be provided a list with more details. Meaning you will get a discount just for being here!
Julia and Ti-Ana shared some different things happening in the community; Greenville has professional sports teams as well as professional and local community theaters. If people want to explore more of the city’s nature, Paris Mountain State Park is about 15 to 20 minutes from downtown. Closer to the hotel is the Swamp Rabbit Trail, a formal walking and biking trail (bike rentals available).
Important Travel Notes.
Attendees flying into Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport should be aware that runway closures are scheduled nightly from 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. during the duration of the conference. Ti-Ana and Julia recommend booking flights earlier in the day whenever possible to help avoid potential travel disruptions.
